I still love my iPhone

December 29th, 2008

drop_iphone_cr1Well, it happened. I finally dropped my iPhone.

I almost had a heart attack. A few nights ago, I took off a hoodie that held my iPhone in the pouch pocket, sending it on a flight to the hardwood floor.

It was loud. But, fortunately, it was more painful for me than for the iPhone. Despite my worst fears, the only damage appears to be a tiny scuff on the back. And I really shouldn’t be surprised. The iPhone has proven itself to be a surprisingly resilient little device. We’ve all seen the YouTube videos, including PC World’s drop/scratch tests. A friend of mine sent his still-functioning iPhone through the washer and the dryer. And then there’s this girl.

What really bothers me, though, is that my streak of babying my iPhone has come to an end. For months, I’ve carried my iPhone without a case, even without a screen protector. I like the looks and sleekness of the iPhone, and I don’t want to cover it up with some clunky plastic or rubber case. Screen protectors don’t really add bulk, but I always see the little outline around the screen, and it bothers me. Thus, I rely on awareness to keep my iPhone safe, and so far, I’ve been careful. Until now.

So what does the future hold? Will I break down and case my iPhone to protect from my newfound carelessness? I don’t think so. Casing it would remove too much enjoyment, and that’s not why I bought it. So, I’ll risk it. If I break it one day, heck, I’ll buy a new one. I’m always looking for a reason to buy new toys anyway.
